Weavers Way Co-op Month Workshop: Weathering Change: The Staying Power of Cooperative Economics
Co-ops exist to meet the needs of their member-owners, which usually make them hyper-local institutions. Many of us join food co-ops and credit unions and send our children to the co-op run childcare provider all in our neighborhood. What do we know about how our local efforts connect to regional, national or even global efforts to grow and sustain the co-op movement?
There’s a lasting and sustainable power embedded in cooperative economics. This talk will explore the staying power of co-ops past, present and our potential for the future. Whether you're thinking of becoming a member-owner or are a veteran cooperator looking to learn more, join us!
This workshop is part of a series of programs in honor of Co-op Month, celebrated annually in October across the country for more than half a century. During Co-op Month, cooperative businesses reflect on their shared principles and work to spread the good word about cooperative enterprise, working to educate others about the value of belonging to a cooperative.
This workshop will be led by Jamila Medley, the Executive Director of the Philadelphia Area Cooperative Alliance.
