Weavers Way Launches "30 in Thirty" Equity Drive
As part of our Chestnut Hill expansion, Weavers Way is launching a member equity drive—“30 in Thirty.” We want as many members as possible to invest an extra $30 into their member equity accounts—in addition to their regular $30—during the month of March. Participating is easy, just click HERE to invest via Paypal, or you can you pay at the register next time you shop, or mail a check for $30 to: Weavers Way Co-op, attn: 30 in Thirty, 559 Carpenter Lane, Phila, PA 19119.
This is a great way for members who could not participate in the member loan program to show their support, and these crucial months leading up to the opening of our new store in Chestnut Hill is a great time to do it. But why is it 30 in Thirty if there’s 31 days in March? Because on Day 31, we’ll be done, and on March 31, we invite you to the come by the store where we will celebrate our successful equity drive with cake! (...that's right, CAKE!!!) Weavers Way Job Fair Monday, March 15, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Weavers Way will be holding to job fair to hire employees for our new Chestnut Hill store. The event will be held at 8400 Germantown Ave., next door to our Chestnut Hill store in the building where the Fall Membership member meeting was. Among the departments we will be recruiting for are: Grocery • Produce • Deli • Prepared Foods • Cashiers
We have both full time and part time opportunities. Our full time employees earn a living wage and receive a full benefits package, including medical and dental insurance, retirement plan, paid vacation and sick time, and employee discount. Previous grocery experience a plus but not a requirement. Ideal candidates will be able to work some early evenings and at least one weekend day. For more info e-mail hr@weaversway.coop.
Weavers Way is Now on Facebook! Join us and win a pair of tickets to the GFS Craft Show! Weavers Way is now on Facebook! (Twitter is soooo 2009 (just kidding, Twitter, but sometimes you just need more than 140 characters!)). To quote the absurdly awkward language of the Book of Faces, "Weavers Way is a fan of Weavers Way and Weavers Way thinks you should be, too."
Click HERE to join us on Facebook and you may win a pair of tickets to the GFS Craft Show
As if joining us on Facebook wasn't enticing enough on its own, we will also be giving away a pair of tickets to the GFS Craft Show ($70 value!) to one lucky Facebook fan. Winner will be announced Thursday, March 4, via Facebook, of course.
Flickering Light at 542 Carpenter Lane
Weavers Way is thrilled to welcome the Flickering Light Film Series to 542 Carpenter Lane. Flickering Light will be showing a lot more feature length films--comedies, romances, documentaries--as well as a new monthly family program, all for just $5.
Good folks and good films converging together. Join Flickering Light on March 6 to kick off our 2010 Spring Season with a tribute to Turkish-German filmmaker, Fatih Akin. Visit http://flickeringfilms.com/ for more info.
Biweekly Bivalves
Attention oyster gourmands, bivalve-ophiles, and adventurous epicures! Do you wish you could buy fresh, live shellfish (oysters, clams, mussels, abalone, perrywinkles, etc.) at Weavers Way? Well, now you can! We are eager to introduce the new Biweekly Bivalve sign-up sheet, located on the right side of the seafood case. Every two weeks we will be bringing in a new mollusk for your gustatory enjoyment. Take a look, and please sign up! Your participation will make it this unique program possible. In the past, we were unable to carry these perishable items because of our limited display space and inability to keep live shellfish alive. Additionally, most bivalves are available only in large quantities (50-, 60-, and 100-plus-count) that are difficult to sell quickly. By reserving a set amount for pickup every other Friday, we can order these quantities and move them out rapidly, giving you the freshest, most delicious shellfish available!
Notary Public Service is Back!
Notary Services are once again available at Weavers Way Co-op. Co-op staffer David Shechtman is on hand from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Thursdays and Sundays in the finance office, on the seconnd floor of our Carpenter Lane store.
Please call David in advance at 215-843-2350 x111 to verify that he is present and available before coming.
Cost is $5 (for the usual service of verifying a signature), $4 for members.
Community Grants Now Available Through Weavers Way
Weavers Way Environment Committee invites community groups from the surrounding area in Mt. Airy, West Oak Lane, Germantown, East Falls, and Chestnut Hill to submit proposals for grants. Grant funds are awarded each year for clearly identifiable public purposes resulting in a tangible improvement for the community. Most grants are awarded for public purposes that benefit the environment through education and/or gardening projects. Funds may be used for such projects as planting trees and herbaceous plants, garden equipment, and enhancement of parks. Some environmentally based educational programs have also been funded through this program. Click HERE for more information.

Public Has Until March 15 to Comment on Plan to Deregulate GM corn
Syngenta Biotechnology, Inc. has petitioned the U.S. Department of Agriculture to deregulate its strain of genetically modified, insect-resistant corn. The USDA is seeking comments on whether it should deregulate the Switzerland-based company's product by March 15. Michael Mack, CEO of Syngenta, has been quoted in the New York Times as saying that pesticides and genetically engineered seeds are better for the planet than organic food and that “If the whole planet were to suddenly switch to organic farming tomorrow, it would be an ecological disaster,” calling organic food the “productive equivalent of driving an S.U.V.” To comment or read the petition, click here.

Cooperative Relief for Haiti In the wake of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, many people are wondering how they can help. The Cooperative Development Fund (CDF) has a fund strictly for the purpose of assisting people in times like these
— the Cooperative Emergency Fund (CEF). Over the last 20 years, CDF has raised over $275,000 for cooperative relief and rebuilding efforts for ten different disasters. The CEF was founded to give stability and constancy to CDF’s emergency relief efforts, many of which are of a longer-term rebuilding nature. The Cooperative Emergency Fund will be donating all monies received from here until July 2010 to help the rebuilding efforts in Haiti. CDF will be collaborating with international cooperative relief efforts in this endeavor to rebuild those co-ops afflicted by this disaster. Donating through the front page of CDF’s website is quick and easy, just visit www.cdf.coop and make a donation through their GOOGLE CHECKOUT function on the right hand side of the website. Your support is extremely appreciated. E-mail comments on the web site to contact@weaversway.coop.
