POSTPONED: Party for the Germantown Micro-Loan Fund!

Thursday, May 14, 2020 - 5:30pm to 8:00pm

Due to COVID-19, this event is being postponed indefinitely. Check back soon for a new date and more details!

“Germantown is full of hidden treasures.” So says Karen Singer, Principal and Artistic Director of Karen Singer Tileworks. She should know — her studio is one of those treasures! Come experience what makes Karen Singer Tileworks so special at this fundraiser, and make your own custom ceramic house number tile. Tickets will help raise funds for Germantown’s Micro-Loan Fund, which makes small, no-interest loans to local businesses to benefit our vibrant Northwest neighborhoods.

You will be guided by Karen every step of the way, including cutting the numbers, creating texture and design, and coloring and glazing the tiles. Imagine your own colorful creation identifying your home! You don’t need prior experience or any particular artistic skill.

The house numbers are part of a larger social project led by Karen Singer to help better identify houses in Northwest Philly. Not many houses are marked in the area, which creates difficulty for fire and police. Karen hopes to get whole blocks together to make ceramic house numbers, building neighborhood community and cohesion in the process. We are thrilled to be part of Karen’s vision for our community and grateful to her for helping the Micro-Loan Fund.

This event will be held at Karen Singer Tileworks, 90 East Church Lane, (down the street from Uncle Bobbie’s) from 5:30-8 p.m. There will be plenty of hors d’oeuvres from Weavers Way, wine, dessert, and coffee, as well as camaraderie, creativity, and fun. As Karen says, “Creativity enhances the spirit, generates endorphins, and smiles – lots and lots of smiles.”

The cost of the workshop is $125, a portion of which is a tax-deductible contribution. GET TICKETS HERE!

Karen Singer’s artistic career didn’t begin in ceramics and tile-making, but she fell in love with the medium and has used her creative vision to work with non-profits, schools, universities, and others in our community and beyond. It's likely you’ve seen Karen’s work; she has tile murals at the Morris Arboretum, the PA School for the Deaf, Green Street Friends School, and Stapeley in Germantown. Her client list extends to organizations around the country. Additionally, she does custom ceramics pieces, offers individual ceramics coaching, and has workshops and parties for children and adults.

The Micro-Loan Fund is a joint venture of Weavers Way New Economy Incubator, the Free Loan Association for Germantown, and Germantown United Community Development Cooperation.
