Moxie Tuesday Workshop: Beans and Other Plant Based Proteins

Tuesday, May 9, 2017 - 7:00pm to 8:30pm
For years, it was assumed that the only way to build muscle was to consume meat. These days, however, the focus has shifted from the type of protein to the quality of protein. Unlike animal protein sources, plant-based protein can offer fiber, antioxidants, and phytochemicals. Multiple studies have shown that a diet high in plant-based foods is associated with a decreased risk of chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, stroke and obesity. Additionally, a plant-based diet is cheaper, low in saturated fat and cholesterol, and better for the environment!

This workshop will discuss the nutritional benefits of several plant-based proteins, such as beans, lentils, chia and hemp seeds, quinoa, and more, and will include recipes and suggestions for incorporating these proteins into your diet.
Weavers Way Co-op is pleased to offer this program in partnership with the non-profit Food Moxie. Moxie Tuesday Workshops are a series of free classes, including cooking demos, discussions about food and nutrition and other food-centric events taking place every second Tuesday of each month.
