Jikiden Reiki is Japanese Reiki as it was originally taught in the 1920s and 1930s in Japan. It was originally considered a method of healing through touch, and it was, in fact, used by the Japanese Navy alongside what we now consider to be "conventional" medicine. Western Reiki has splintered into a number of different schools of thought as teachers have added explanations and accessories that do not reflect the original Japanese teaching. Jikiden Reiki is simplistic by comparison. It is simply the placement of hands on the body in direct reference to areas of concern and then allowing the energy to flow.

Reiki is not religious or mystical. It is simply a powerful hands-on, non-manipulative therapy, useful for illness, injury, pain and anxiety. It is mostly thought of as a relaxation tool, but is increasingly being utilized in hospitals for pain relief and to reduce side effects from chemotherapy.
