Weavers Way Homesteading Workshop: Preserving Fresh Fruit Three Ways! (Canning, In Alcohol, & Dehydrating)

Thursday, June 29, 2017 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Do you long for berries in December? Have you ever wished to unlock the secret to summer fruit, year round?  In this delicious and informative class, you’ll learn three different ways of preserving summer's bounty — canning; preserving fruit in alcohol, and dehydrating. Jars and supplies for preserving your own bounty will be on hand!

This workshop will be led by local canning expert, master gardener and urban homesteading guru Anna Herman. Anna is the coordinator of the Penn State Extension Master Gardener program, overseeing volunteer opportunities for over 120 gardeners in projects around the city. She is also the volunteer coordinator of the Morris Arboretum Community Garden, and is a writier for a variety of food businesses, schools, and publications, including Martha Stewart Living and Food & Wine Magazine. Anna has an extensive urban farm at her own Mt. Airy home, where she keeps chickens, ducks, and bees, fruit trees and tons of veggies. We are thrilled to have her as a member of our Coop community, and to be able to learn from her! For more about Anna, here is a great article about her urban farm in the Chestnut Hill Local.
