Water is Life: From Standing Rock to Split Rock

Saturday, September 23, 2017 - 7:00pm to 10:00pm

The issues that gave rise to the Standing Rock Camp and the Water Protectors are ongoing and evident in our own region. As the Standing Rock band of the Sioux (Oceti Sakowin) and their allies battled Energy Transfer Partners to stop the Dakota Access Pipe Line (DAPL) from destroying their lands, their sacred burial grounds and their water, so too the Ramapough Lenape Nation is battling Spectra Company’s Algonquin (AIM) and Pilgrim pipelines that threaten their lands in our region. The Lenape have formed the Split Rock Sweetwater Prayer Camp on their land in Mahwah, New Jersey, to provide strength and direction in this effort. They ask your help.

Saturday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. will be a fundraising gathering to celebrate the determination the Lenape have shown as well as to gather resources to help with the battles ahead.

The event includes presentations from indigenous leaders, performances from Aztec dancers and music from the Humbleman Band. Members of the Prayer Camp will join us for this evening so that we can learn more about their efforts.

Donation at the door will be on a sliding scale from $5 to $20. Drinks will be available for purchase. Snacks will be provided.
