Member Workshop: On Lead Poisoning and Poverty in America

Thursday, November 17, 2016 - 7:00pm to 8:30pm

Poor families in the U.S. are eight times more likely to have signs of lead poison than those from higher income families, and African-American children are five times more likely to be poisoned than white children.

Join Weavers Way Co-op member and Penn graduate student Juliet Shen for a presentation and discussion about the obvious connection between lead poisioning and poverty in America. Juliet will give a presentation on the body of research that links childhood lead exposure with violence and incarceration, and how lead-contaminated housing perpetuates the cycle of poverty in urban America. The topic the focus of Juliet's Masters thesis, and one which she has been researching for over a year. She will lead a discussion on the business case for lead prevention, and how communication efforts can increase prevention and drive policy change.

Admission is free. REGISTER HERE.
