Weavers Way Festival June 21 Features the Best of Fresh & Local

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PHILADELPHIA, PA, June 10, 2014 — Weavers Way Co-op celebrates LOCAL with our biggest-ever Fresh & Local Fair in the Backyard at the Chestnut Hill store Saturday, June 21, from noon to 4 p.m. Participants can try samples from local vendors, talk local with the Co-op staff and meet the Weavers Way farmers. (Only your backyard is more local!)

Weavers Way and other local musicians will be performing all day as part of Make Music Philly, a “do-it-yourself” music festival encompassing more than 500 cities worldwide. (Weavers Way Mt. Airy is also a Make Music Philly site. For more info, visit www.makemusicphilly.org.) Susty Party will also be on hand hosting kids’ craft projects. (This Brooklyn-based outfit makes disposable party goods from renewable or sustainably harvested materials, all in North America.)

Supporting local producers and bringing local products to our shoppers is one of the primary missions of Weavers Way. The first of the seven “Ends” that guide the Co-op states: “There will be a thriving and sustainable local economy providing meaningful jobs, goods and services to our members and the community.” And since last July, we’ve fulfilled that goal to the tune of $4.4 million in sales, including local produce, prepared foods, meat and dairy, grocery and health and beauty supplies.

Here's who will be in the Backyard — rain or shine, we’ve got a tent! — on June 21:
